Bushido
• Gi (Justice and Rectitude): The most essential virtue of the samurai. It
involves making the right decisions with total fairness, acting righteously, and never wavering.
• Yu (Heroic Courage): The willingness to do what is right despite fear or difficulty, transforming fear into intelligent caution and respectful strength.
• Jin (Benevolence and Compassion):
Using power, martial arts, and strength for the benefit of others rather than
destruction. It encourages mercy, love, and sympathy.
• Rei (Respect and Politeness):
Demonstrating profound courtesy and dignity at all times, even toward one's enemies. It is a fundamental method of treating others with value.
• Makoto (Honesty and Sincerity): The commitment that one's words and actions are perfectly aligned. It means telling the truth and honoring promises unconditionally.
• Meiyo (Honor): Living gracefully with a strong sense of personal dignity and accountability. Honor is considered the true judge of a samurai's character.
• Chugi (Loyalty): Absolute devotion and duty to one's master, peers, and community. It is the ultimate expression of commitment, selflessness, and responsibility.
